70s cop shows sure knew how to
treat their viewers to some fantastic ear-melting opening themes, didn't they??
Morton Stevens' FIVE-O theme is an obvious one! But what about these gems?
Billy Goldenberg's KOJAK: https://youtu.be/-hQldclTLwM
Jerry Goldsmith's BARNABY JONES: https://youtu.be/47mG6zrG_1U
Barry DeVorzon's SWAT: https://youtu.be/zFijg_Tnn7M
Pat Williams' STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO: https://youtu.be/mijBMpnS3a4
Theme tunes are a lost art these days. No one cares about them anymore. Folks
have the attention span of a gnat and want to jump right into the show.
Personally I always enjoyed the "warm-up" to the show proper that
these themes provided. Ah, the good old days. When theme intros were not only
essential but great care was actually taken to come up with a memorable one.
This went beyond just dramas, this included sitcoms as well. All shows! Even with
lousy shows the theme tune was usually the best thing about it.
